Mercedes-Benz confirmed that it is developing a new mid-engined hypercar, and it will be launched under the Mercedes-AMG performance brand in 2018. This new model was confirmed by Thomas Weber, the company’s head of research and development, who will be retiring at the end of this year, just on the eve of the Paris Motor Show.
Weber said in an interview that the “next big thing” for AMG is already in the “pipeline.” They are going to create an AMG performance hybrid that features their Formula 1 drivetrain technology, and some will probably call it the hypercar. But no matter what industry experts want to call this new car from Mercedes-AMG, one thing is for sure, according to Weber: it will show how the company will take the performance brand to the future with efficient and intelligent drivetrain technology. This Mercedes-AMG is being developed to rival against the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1. Porsche 918 Spyder, Aston Martin/Red Bull-developed AM-RB 001. This new model is said to lead the growing Mercedes-AMG range that will grow into at least 10 models in 2017. The hypercar is going to be powered by the entire Formula 1 powertrain—1.6-liter capacity, the use of energy recovery system, the MGU-K that converts mechanical and heat energy into electrical energy, and the MGU-H system that uses the heat from the exhaust to create electrical energy. A full-scale model or a prototype of this all-carbon, mid-engined hypercar will start next year, with the first customers expecting to get their cars by the end of 2018.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe gets a special treatment by LUMMA Design with unique Wide Body kit called LUMMA CLR G 800. The redesigned car will make an official debut a few days ahead of the Motor Show in Frankfurt. This is a significant event because the CLR G 800 is actually the first ever wide-body conversion for the new GLE. What is more, the wheels that this car rides on are massive! Literally. They have been developed in cooperation with Dutch tire manufacturer VREDESTEIN, measuring 24-inch. Other exclusive upgrades to this model will also include power improvement to 800hp and various interior finishes. The Details We All Want to Know Exterior The elegant and stylish SUV now feature sharper silhouette and edges. Large carbon fiber air intakes are positioned on their side of the new front section. New bespoke front spoiler lip is also made of the high quality light-weight material. More air for the twin-turbo V8 is ensured by the new front and side intakes of the LUMMA Sport lightweight carbon bonnet. The aggressiveness of the vehicle is additionally strengthened by the LUMMA wheel arch extensions with side air vents that add around 50mm per each side of the car. Made from carbon-fibre, these wheel arch extensions feature side air vents. The new side skirts are what connect the wider front and rear arches. In fact, the rear arches features something worth mentioning: brake cooling ducts. At the rear we see carbon rear diffuser flanked by an in-house made stainless steel sport exhaust system. It features four black 100mm diameter outlets and a deep soundtrack. The tail has also received carbon rear spoiler lip as well as roof panel on the rear hatch window. Massive Wheel & Tire Combination VREDESTEIN and LUMMA has gathered together and developed a 24-inch wheel & tire combination. Sized 10.5"and 13.0" x 24-inch at the front and rear, respectively. Interior The interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe CLR G 800 is currently under development. What we know for sure is that it will include high-quality materials like fine woods, leathers and carbon-fibre trim. LUMMA Design designers say that they would love to work with customers to make their imagination a pure fact. See you in Frankfurt!
Good news if you like the appearance of the actual S-Class Coupe, but dislike the pricing, here’s the upcoming C-Class Coupe to convey your wallet. As it is meant to mimic the bigger Brother's styling on a smaller, and more affordable, package. As you can see, about two-thirds of the camouflage has been removed. The undisguised front end reveals a similar face to the C-sedan, which itself, shares a family resemblance with the W222 S-Class, though the hood on the Coupe appears slightly flatter and more elongated while the headlamps seem to stretch back more. And it is obviously clear that The C-Class Coupe's profile, sloping roofline and rear end are all heavily influenced by the new S-Coupe! And since it’s based on the C-Class, it will have a similar interior, and engine range of four and six-cylinder petrol and four-cylinder diesel engines. AMG will offer a turbocharged 4.0L V8 for the C63 AMG available in two guises, 470hp (476PS) and 503hp (510PS) for the 'S' model. Depending on the version, the Coupe will get updated 7-speed or new 9-speed automatic transmissions, with Mercedes's 4Matic four-wheel drive system will be optional.
The car is rumored to be unveiled on the Frankfurt Auto-show this Fall. Open your piggy banks Gentlemen, an unused CLK GTR Roadster is heading to auction. The "car" features one mighty 6.9L v12 engine producing 603bhp & 775Nm (572 lb-ft) of pure torque that makes the car shift from a standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.8s before topping the 320km/h (200mph) barrier. Car to go on sale on June 26th at a Bonhams event during the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed and is expected to garner between $2.17M to $2.79M. We remember you that Mercedes made only 6 units of these worldwide. The recently launched Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) is the most luxurious car ever produced by the German car-maker and is the most recent one in a long line of amazing cars. Even though the Mercedes 220 (W 187) launched in 1951 is considered the official predecessor of the modern S-Class, the Stuttgart based carmaker’s tradition regarding luxury limousines started even earlier, a hundred years ago. 1903 is the year when Mercedes created the first True Luxury car, only to leave everyone speechless 25 years later when it launched the Nurburg in 1928, which was the first ever Mercedes to be powered by a v8 engine. Today, the S-Class is the car-maker’s flagship and even though competition is extremely tough (Audi A8 - BMW 7 Series) , the S-Class is still considered THE luxury car. Starting with 1951, the luxury segment has always been one of Mercedes main moneymakers. After automobile production was resumed after World War II, Mercedes sold more than 3.5 million units in this segment and the S-Class is definitely the most successful model, with the previous generation (W 221) selling more than 500,000 units since its launch in 2005. 1. Mercedes Simplex, (1903-1905)Mercedes built their first luxury car in 1903. Called Simplex. It was powered by an extremely powerful engine by the times’ standards ; a four-cylinder unit developing 60-hp. It also featured a large radiator and its handling was improved by the lower gravity center, doing a lot better than the rest of automobiles built in that period. 2 - MERCEDES-BENZ W08 (NURBURG) (1928-1939)We skip almost two decades to a glory period for luxury in Europe. The time between the two World Wars was extremely good for Mercedes and the best proof is the Nurburg model (W08). It was the first production car to feature a v8 engine and the Pullman body was created with passengers’ comfort as the main concern. 3. Mercedes-Benz W07 and W150 (770 “Super Mercedes”), (1930-1943)The “Super Mercedes” was also famous because it was the favorite cars of Nazi leaders during World War II, including Adolf Hitler and Herman Goring, who used “Der Großer Mercedes” (German for “the big Mercedes”) for both personal and military purposes. 4. Mercedes-Benz W142 (320), (1937-1942)It was powered by a v6 engine linked to a synchronized four-speed transmission. The model was even more interesting since it was available in several body versions, including sedan, Pullman and convertible. An upgrade to the engine was made in 1938, with the displacement being increased to 3.4 liters. The total numbers of W142 built was 5,211 (885 were upgraded models), plus 1,806 Kubelwagens (military units based on the W142). 5. Mercedes-Benz W187 (220), (1951-1955)1951, the War is now over. After several maintenance & repair-work made to the damaged factory of Sindelfingen by the Bombing of the Allies, Mercedes-Benz is back in Business. The W187 was the first post-war model to be powered by a new six-cylinder engine. It was also made available as a sedan, coupe and cabriolet. Even though the saloon’s production was discontinued in 1954, the cabriolet was built until 1955. 6. Mercedes-Benz W186, W188 and W189 (300), (1951-1962)Car luxury was reached new levels when the 300 model was launched. Mercedes started development immediately after the war and the official launch took place in 1951. With new features such as a new generation six-cylinder engine, vacuum assisted power brakes and heating as standard, plus air conditioning and power steering as optional features (starting with 1958), the Mercedes-Benz 300 quickly became one of the most important luxury limousines of the time. And with a top speed of almost 100 mph, it was also the fastest. Being the first luxury limousine built after the war, it was also the main model used by German officials. And because during his tenure as Chancellor (from 1949 to 1963) Konrad Adenauer employed six custom made 300s, the car has since been known among Mercedes fans as the “Adenauer Mercedes”. 7. Mercedes-Benz W180 (220), 1954-1959The W180 was a very interesting car for people looking for a Luxury vehicle at that time. It featured plenty of space for the passengers and lots of features such as the heating system with separate controls for driver and passenger (a predecessor of today’s two-way air conditioning systems). During the production run, there were two versions of the Mercedes-Benz 220 built. The first one was the 220a, which was seen as a more luxurious version of the 180 (W120). It was powered by the six-cylinder engine from the W187 and more than 25,000 units were built between March 1954 and April, 1956. The second version was the 220S, built between March 1956 and October 1959. Even though there were some aesthetic changes, the main upgrade was the engine, the new 2.2-liter inline-six delivering 99-hp (later upgraded to 105-hp). Besides the sedan, the 220S was also available as a cabriolet (July 1956) and a coupe (October 1956). Even though Mercedes has never officially confirmed, most experts agree that the W180 “Ponton” (the name comes from its pontoon-shaped body) is the first mid-size luxury car and the predecessor of the modern E-Class ! 8. Mercedes-Benz W111 (220 SE), (1959-1964)In 1959 Mercedes-Benz introduced the W111, which featured two premieres in car safety: front and rear crumple zones that absorbed kinetic energy in case of an impact and retractable seatbelts. Other important features that were added later were four-speed automatic transmission, disk brakes and hydraulic suspension. But perhaps the most memorable feature is the two tailfin design, which was created for the European and North American markets and which gave the model its nickname, “Tailfin” (“Heckflosse” in German). 9. Mercedes-Benz W100 (600), (1963-1981)The W100 was one of the most powerful limousines in the world when it was launched in 1963. The car was powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine that was producing 250-hp and was able to reach a top speed over 125 mph. For utter passenger comfort, the Mercedes 600 featured an adjustable air suspension and hydraulic controls for the windows, seats, doors or sunroof. There were also several long wheelbase versions that offered as many as seven or eight seats. Featuring probably the best options at that time, the W100 quickly became the favorite car of many officials and celebrities such as the Pope, Coco Chanel, The Shah of Iran, Elvis Presley, Fidel Castro or Pablo Escobar. 10. Mercedes-Benz W108 (250S – 300SEL), (1965-1972)The W108 was built between 1965 and 1972 and even though it was less imposing than the 600, it was given similar powertrains and it was appreciated especially for its more modern look. An important milestone was the top of the line 300 SEL, which was powered by the 250-hp 6.3-liter V8 from the 600. With a 0 to 62 time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 142.3 mph, it was the fastest four-door sedan in the world. 11. Mercedes-Benz W116 (S-Class), (1972-1980)The “S-Class” name tag was used for the first time in 1972, being given to the W116, the first generation S-Class as we know it now. “Sonderklasse” German for “Special Class” . And the innovations list was incredibly long for the ‘70s: four-spoke steering wheel, hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension, gas tank mounted above the rear axle for better protection in case of a crash and large headlights with turn signals. Introduced later, in 1975, the 450SEL 6.9 featured the largest engine ever mounted on a Mercedes, the 6.9-liter delivering 286-hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. But the most important features, that had a significant impact on the car industry, were added later. Cruise control was introduced in 1975, while in 1978 the W116 became the first car in the world to feature an electronic four-wheel ABS system. Another important premiere was that the W116 was the first luxury Mercedes to be given a diesel version, the 300 SD, which was available only in the United States and Canada and was powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-charged engine. 12. Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126, (1979-1991)The second generation S-Class made its debut in 1979 and its mission wasn’t easy at all. The new model had to continue the success of its predecessor, the W116, which was the best-selling luxury car in the world. But the new W126 has some aces up its sleeve, such as improved aerodynamics (it featured a record drag coefficient of Cd 0.37 for the sedan and 0.34 for the coupe, improving fuel economy by as much as 10 percent), adjustable steering wheel, traction control, exterior temperature sensor with LCD display and, since with 1988, passenger’s airbag (driver side airbag was already available since 1981). All these features plus the long production run (longest in S-Class history) made the W126 the best-selling S-Class ever! With a total number of 892,123 units sold (74,060 coupes). 13. Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140 (1991-1998)The third generation S-Class was launched in 1991 and it became the first production Mercedes to be powered by a V12 engine (the 600SEL version). The features list included power-assisted doors and boot lid, rear-parking markers (replaced by Parktronic in 1995), Electronic Stability Control (ESP) and side airbags (starting with 1996). A turbo-charged diesel version was also available, the 300 SD (later replaced by the S300). When production ended in 1998, Mercedes had sold a total number of more than 430,000 units, out of which around 26,000 were coupes. 14. Mercedes-Benz S-Class W220 (1998-2005)Even though it was smaller than theW140, the W220 offered more space for passengers (thanks to an optimized interior). The new S-Class was also lighter than the W140, achieving this through the use of lightweight materials such as steel, alloy and plastic. What was a little surprising was that, unlike the W126 and the W140, the new S-Class was not the model chosen to introduce a new design theme (Mercedes offered this “honor” to the A-Class, which was released a year earlier). 15. Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 (2005-2013)The W221 was launched in 2005 and was built until 2013. The W221 introduced many features such as the Night View Assist system that allowed the driver to spot pedestrians or obstacles at night, while the automatic transmission’s control was moved to the steering wheel column, something not too familiar to some markets, such as Europe. The W221 became the first luxury limousine to be powered by a hybrid powertrain when the S400 Hybrid was launched in 2009 and in 2010 Mercedes became the first car-maker to put a four-cylinder on a luxury model. 16. Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 (2014 - )The latest S-Class was introduced in May 2014. This time, the new Mercedes flagship has a double role, besides replacing the last generation S-Class, it also has to replace the late Maybach brand. It’s not going to be easy and to achieve that, top versions (S600 - S600 Maybach - S600 Maybach-Pullman - S65AMG) will come with exclusive features such as massage for the rear seats, air filtering and ionizing system (Air Balance Package), ten-way adjustable seats and many more. Among the most important features of the new S-Class we have Full LED brake lights that dim at night or when stopped at lights, Magic Body Control system that scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension, plus a set of features called “Intelligent Drive” that groups next generation safety systems such as Active Parking Assist, Night View Assist Plus, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian recognition and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist and it was awarded Best car of the Year 2014.
At the front, we can clearly see W205 C-Class-style headlights complete with hockey stick LED driving lights. Here's a good render of the front made by Autobild's artist. Along the flanks Mercedes-Benz has tried to hide the car’s shoulder line with a few boxy false panel pieces. Anyway, taillights seem much-like inspired from the W205 C-Class Estate. And here's the rear-view! The Mercedes-Benz GLC is set to debut in the middle of June, and is expected to feature most of the petrol and diesel drive-train options seen in the related W205 C-Class. It will be based on the new C Class’s rear wheel drive MRA platform, and is suitably designed along the lines of the new C Class as well. The interior will be carried over also from the C Class, though the central COMAND system’s screen size would be an inch larger than the C Class’s unit (7-inch) system. Starting the range of Petrol engines will be a 153hp four-cylinder petrol, while the range-topping engine will be a V6 unit with 328hp. The more efficient diesels will be four-cylinder engines producing between 114hp to 201hp.
Later in its life-cycle, the GLC will also get a hybrid variant with a 209hp petrol engine paired to a 68hp Electric motor. The AMG GT is a really important model for Mercedes because it signifies the beginning of a new era for their performance models. The years of the naturally aspirated V8 brutes are sadly over petrolheads. Manufactures officially approving engine downsizings to improve fuel efficiency, economy & climate protection. Going from the brutal M159 6.2l v8 engine in the SLS to a more environmentally-friendly M178 4.0l v8 Bi-Turbo. The base GT model produces 456hp with 0-62mph (0-100km/h) coming in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 189mph (304km/h) while the GT S takes the power up to 503hp, 0-60 in 3.8sec, with a top speed of 193mph (311 km/h). Aren’t these specs enough for keeping you away from any 911? Concept of next E-Class due in September According to company Boss Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes-Benz's efforts on autonomous driving technology will soon be seen on a production car, thus hinting the model in question will be the next generation E-Class, by 2016. Before that, Mercedes will obviously present a concept in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show which will preview the highly anticipated mid-size model. Zetsche said the tech will revolve mostly around highway driving and parking. The technology will probably feature an evolution of the Highway Pilot system. This means the next E-Class will be able to drive itself up to a certain speed (100km/h - 60mph) on highways and should brake, change lanes and even perform overtakes on its own. Moreover, the W213 generation should also autonomously park itself without the necessity of having a driver behind the wheel. We can't wait to see this beauty! via worldcarfans.com
In Part I we have shown you all the Mercedes Concept cars from 1969's Mercedes C111 until 1999's Mercedes-Mclaren SLR Vision Concept. Thirty years of hard work and progress to fulfill one simple promise: The Best Or Nothing. In this second part, we'll go from 2000 until 2010. Ten years full of research and facts. Mercedes-Benz VISION SLA Concept (2000) This two-seater convertible concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class of that era, and was only 3.77 m (148.4 in) long. A car meant to be Super practical in town! The body-shell was constructed with aluminum and plastic in order to reduce the weight and enhance acceleration & speed. The car was in-fact powered by a small & tiny 1.9L from the A-Class producing 123hp! its It's distinctive pointed front design became however later a feature of the 2004 Mercedes-Benz SLK facelift! The F400 Carving, which gets its name from the sporty carvers on ski slopes, was created with the plan to test a new type of handling systems, The Tilting Wheels. When cornering, the wheels on the outside of the bend tilt by as much as 20 degrees, which distinctly improves directional stability and road-holding. Sensors measure the road speed, acceleration, steering lock and yaw of the car, and send control signals to the outer wheels’ hydraulic servo cylinders, causing them to tilt at a precisely defined angle. The kerb-side wheels, like the body, remain in their normal position. Mercedes-Benz F500 Mind Presented at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz F500 Mind proved that the future of auto industry will never cease to be exciting. The four-door car, designed as a modern hatchback saloon, served as a research lab on wheels and demonstrated over a dozen technical ideas for enhancing the safety, propulsion and comfort of future Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The F500 mind was designed to utilize different propulsion energies. If a great deal of power is required, a V8 diesel engine with 184 kW (250 hp) drives the F 500 Mind – and simultaneously charges the batteries, as the car also features a 50 kW electric motor that works either by itself or in conjunction with the internal combustion engine. Key word: Fuel efficiency. Powered by an 85 kW (115 hp) zero-emission fuel cell drive, the compact family car consumed the equivalent of just 2.9 litres per 100 kilometres (81 mpg) and had a range of over 400 kilometres on one tank filling of hydrogen. The Energy not required for driving the car was stored in a high-performance lithium-ion battery. The system therefore operates rather like a hybrid drive and selects automatically the source of energy best-suited to the driving situation. At the North American Auto Show 2007 in Detroit, Mercedes-Benz underlined its role as pioneer and design trendsetter by presenting the four-door Concept Ocean Drive convertible. With this design, Mercedes-Benz revived the tradition of large luxury convertibles with a specially manufactured one-off model. Without the constraints of technical and production specifications, the designers created the most comfortable and most elegant convertible in the world, at that time. 5.5L V12 four-stroke gasoline 517 hp. Mercedes-Benz F700 Concept (2007) The Mercedes-Benz F 700 presents the future of the superior touring sedan. It demonstrates innovative approaches and technologies for using resources sparingly, protecting the environment and permitting the driver and passengers to travel in a completely relaxed style. One single unit was built and was offered by Mercedes-Benz as a gift to the UAE King. This shooting-brake-style concept has been designed as a preview for the next-generation E-Class (W212) Mercedes E-Class and as a preview for the later-coming CLS Shooting Brake! The Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO concept is Mercedes' attempt at the alternative fuel movement that was launched all over the planet on 2008. Mercedes-Benz F-Cell Roadster Concept (2009) During April 2009, the concept car has traveled the Bertha Benz Memorial Route thus celebrating the exploits of Mrs. Bertha Benz in 1888. It has an electric motor powered by a fuel cell located at the rear of a power of 1.2 kW (1.63 hp). It has a low top speed, it is 25 km/h and achieve an operating range of 350 km. Found inside the vehicle the following elements: a joystick replacing the conventional wheel and bucket seats in carbon fiber. The design is meant to resemble a Horseless Carriage and references the original Benz Patent-Motorwagen with large diameter and thin spoked wheels. Little photo gallery where we'll be showing you all Concepts Mercedes-Benz unveiled to the public. Some got promoted & became later road-legal-models, others remained for research purposes. Mercedes-Benz AUTO 2000 PROJECT (1981) - The Auto 2000 project started in 1980 when West Germany’s Federal Ministry for Research and Technology challenged local automakers (Mercedes-BMW-Audi-Porsche-VW) to design a fully-functional prototype that was considerably more fuel-efficient than what was on the market at the time. The project’s guidelines specified the prototypes had to use no more than 9.5 liters of gas per 100km if they weighed between 1,250 and 1,700 kilos and no more than 11 liters per 100 kilometers if between 1,701 and 2,150 kilos Mercedes-Benz NAFA PROJECT (1982). And thanks to the Data collected in this car, in 1994, the Smart Brand was born. MERCEDES LE MANS - COLANI PROJECT (1985) Mercedes-Benz C112 PROJECT (1991). Mercedes-Benz introduced the C112 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991 as a to be produced sports car. The car used a mid-mounted 6.0 L V12 engine. But after accepting 700 deposits, the company decided unfortunately not to proceed with production. Mercedes-Benz F100 Research vehicle (1991).This research car gave tangible expression to the vision of engineers and market strategists for the automobile of the future. Never before had so many ideas and innovative technologies been realised in a fully operational car. In the F100, the driver was seated in the middle. Statistically, a car is occupied by 1.2 to 1.7 persons – driver included. So the driver deserves the safest place, which is the center position. Some even say that this car was the first mule to serve as a Pattern for the later-coming R-Class. Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Sport Coupe - KARMANN Design based on R129 Mercedes SL ( 1993 ) Mercedes-Benz FCC (Family Car for China) (1994) -- At the 1994 "Family Car" exhibition in Beijing, Mercedes-Benz presented a compact car concept specially developed for the future Chinese market, the "Family Car China" (FCC). The main features of the FCC concept were its large interior space within compact exterior dimensions, coupled with highest standards of comfort, quality and environmental acceptability. The Mercedes-Benz Vario Research Car is really four cars in one. Variability was the design focus of the Vario Research Car (VRC). Within just a few minutes, the VRC can be transformed into a different car. For everyday driving, it’s a saloon. For longer journeys, the load capacity of an estate car is available. In the summer, the sun invites you to take an open-top ride in a convertible. And for heavy loads, there’s the pickup with its open cargo space. It has a one-piece body that consists of a roof, side walls and rear section; the body can be lifted off and exchanged for another variant. All that is needed is a few simple operations that take just 15 minutes. The driver could decide how long to use a particular body variant, because the rental system would be just as flexible as the car itself. Mercedes-Benz F200 IMAGINATION. The car was created to test new ergonomic concepts based on drive-by-wire technology and improve cockpit design. It was powered by a 6.0 v12 engine developing 394hp. The car was rear-wheel drive with a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz F300 Life Jet. How can the feel and cornering dynamics of a motorcycle be combined with the safety and comfort of a car? This was the question that initiated the design that eventually became known as the F300 Life Jet. Motorcyclists enjoy the freedom offered by their vehicles, they’re able to lean into bends, sense the power of the engine, feel at one with the elements, and experience the unbridled pleasure of the road. These are all things that the designers and engineers of the F 300 Life Jet strived to convey with their concept. Mercedes-Benz VISION SLR (1999). It was a joint project between Daimler-Chrysler and McLaren Cars. The companies invested 200€ M to create a super car that will rival the McLaren F1 The SLR will reflect the heritage, philosophies and styling of Mercedes-Benz and will be produced utilizing the latest state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques at the new TAG McLaren facilities currently under construction in Woking, England. PART II is here.
Overwhelm the senses or starve them. Connect the driver so completely with the car that he has to duck to avoid the crankshaft throws, or isolate the cabin so absolutely that its occupants feel cleansed by its serenity. Constant stimulation or sensory deprivation? When engineering an expensive car, a path must be chosen. But the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 charts a difficult middle course. It’s not a frantic supercar, nor is it a numb isolation chamber on four wheels. Instead, it indulges each of the five senses in well chosen doses. Of course, the new Maybach isn’t a car for people who merely have their names on parking spaces. It’s a $190,275, 523-hp, twin-turbo V-12–powered leviathan for the titans who have their names on buildings! especially in China. After all, even billionaires in America like to consider themselves “middle-class.” Many drive Ford F-150s and drink Corona. The Maybach is embarrassingly opulent, even by the standards of most American one-percenters, and that’s why only about 10% of new Maybach S-class production will make it to America. Chinese culture, on the other hand, has a lingering caste system, and the nouveau gentry expect to be driven in regal comfort while they drink chilled Crystal from the optional sterling-silver champagne flutes. Mercedes expects that 50 percent of new Maybachs will head there. (!) Most of the new Maybach’s mechanical substance is identical to the standard S600’s. During assembly, an additional steel panel gets welded to the floorpan, and new extended aluminum rear quarters and a longer roof are bonded to the structure. However, on the standard S600’s multispoke wheels, the Maybach also looks anonymous. It’s the dazzling, optional Maybach-exclusive 20-inchers that bring the necessary eyeball wallop. Like silver Tiffany serving bowls embedded into a polished set of E-T slot mags, the Maybach wheels visually lower the car’s center of gravity and give it a frisson of futurism. They’re encased in 245/40 front and 275/35 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 run-flat tires with square shoulders and steamroller tread patterns. It’s all very master of the universe–type stuff. And forget the individual media screens in the rear lounge, don’t bother with the seven possible colors of ambient interior lighting you can choose from, and don’t look up through the standard panoramic sunroof; the visual feast lies under each fender. (In-car dinning is also recommended in-here.) All the Maybach’s stretch translates into additional legroom for the two occupants in back, who are seated in thrones that look as if they were pulled from an executive jet. With separate power controls, pillow-style headrests, extendable legrests, and a perfectly coddling shape, they’re as good for napping as any bed in your house. Six-footers won’t be able to tap the front seatbacks with their feet. And a hot-stone-massage system is included. Mercedes claims that the Maybach S600’s rear passengers sit in the quietest space in any car. Even the seatbelts’ inertial reels are sealed to reduce the offensive noise of their operation. Silence anyway isn't always a virtue, though, so every Maybach carries either a Burmester surround-sound system or the even higher-end 3-D surround-sound system that faithfully replicates orchestral music and has tweeters that pop out and rotate when in use. BUT the Maybach’s most engaging sound is heard mostly by the driver. Pressing the start button initiates an ignition sequence that whirs the big 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 to life as if the ground plugs had been pulled and fuel pumps started on a moon-bound Saturn V rocket. Mercedes’ S-class is undoubtedly one of the best cars in the world, and moving up to the Maybach amplifies most of its virtues. In particular, the V-12 that can seem like coldblooded overkill in the S-class feels easygoing in the 523-hp Maybach, and shifts of the 7-speed automatic transmission are somehow both firm and virtually unnoticeable. Meanwhile the coordinated operation of the Magic Body Controlsuspension and Road Surface Scan forward-looking-camera system gives the Maybach the most even-tempered ride of any sedan. The distant steering feel present in other S-class sedans somehow feels appropriate in the stretched Maybach. Mercedes plans to apply the Maybach treatment to other products, including (it’s rumored) the large GL SUV. A super-deluxe SUV such as that one could find more takers in the United States than this monstrous sedan. And there should be a stretched E-class Maybach for the junior executives in China and America as well. The SLK has, since its original 1995 launch, been a traditional small Mercedes sports car – engine at the front, driven wheels at the back and a folding steel hard-top (it was one of the first cars to deploy that technology) in the middle.
The designation "SLK" derives from the company's design mission to create a roadster that was at once sporty, light and short—in German: sportlich (sport), leicht (light) und kurz (short). For the next SLK it’s all change. AMG is going to take the lead in developing the new car, according to a report in German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport. The car will obviously carry many details of the new AMG-GT coupe. Sadly rear-wheel-drive will be thrown away as Mercedes seeks to reduce the cost base of the now slow-selling SLK by taking it away from sharing with the C-Class and instead putting it on the front-and 4Wheel-drive platform alongside the A-Class and CLA. As with the TT, the new SLK will come initially as a coupe and later as a convertible. There are also some rumors about a new E-Class Coupe, stay-tuned! As we all know, Mercedes-Benz is now preparing a new pickup truck for 2020, but if you don't feel like waiting, here's something to get by until that happens. THIS above, is a W126 420 SEL sedan from 1988 built by German Motorcars in Florida. They basically removed the entire rear passenger section including the roof and doors, replacing it with a truck bed. Inside, the car retains the stock model's dashboard, seats, upholstery and gadgets, though it's evident from the pictures that time has taken its toll on certain components like the four-arm steering wheel. Power comes from Merc's 4.2-liter V8 that should deliver close to 230 horses paired to an automatic Transmission turning the rear wheels. The sellers at Atlanta's Streeside Classics say the engine has around 35,000 miles since it was rebuilt, but there's no word on the true mileage of the car that is priced at $18,995. Old Mercs don't die, they just get faster. Randall Faris, a longtime Mercedes sedan fan had been looking for either a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 or a 450 SEL 6.9. He was at his home (in Wyoming) when his brother-in-law, Scott, called him from Colorado about 350 miles away and read him an ad from craigslist for five 6.3’s. And he wasn't joking. The 1968-1972 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 holds a unique place in auto history. Some consider it the first super sedan, a luxury machine with muscle car acceleration and impeccable road manners, all in a stealthy package that looked identical to the six-cylinder versions of the W109 body style. The heart of the 6.3 was the M100 SOHC V-8 that was first used in the unrivaled Mercedes 600 ultra-luxury sedan introduced in 1963. That car weighed nearly three tons, so putting its 300-horsepower engine into a 4,000-pound package resulted in stunning performance for the time: zero to 60 in seven seconds and a top speed of about 135 mph. (One drive and you will see why people love them.) What Scott saw in the Advert was a group of cars covered in dust, but with no rust, and with interiors in very good condition. The decision to buy became a partnership between Scott and Faris, who agreed that they would probably keep one each and sell the other three. Pop-up your wallets reader. These are good. The two men later examined, started and run all but one of the cars so far. So far, it appears that replacing a few of the air springs might be the biggest expense needed. “Other repairs have been minor things – switches not working, things like that,” said Scott.” Two of the 6.3’s are 1969 models, one red one black. With just 27,000 original miles. Faris plans to keep the red one, which needed just a muffler and tie rod ends for a repair bill of $853. “The air suspension was fine on that one” he said. “We have documentation showing the black car was detailed by its first owner every month.” Another of the cars has 53,000 miles and the others have mileage in the 70s. Milewski has his eye on a 1971 gold car. “The interior wood looks brand new on that one,” Scott later said. The other cars include two 1971 models in blue and green. The color selection of the five 6.3’s is a pleasing contrast to the 10 shades of gray that seem to define today’s luxury car paint palettes. Congratulations guys!! via: Fox. Great automotive value for money is something I will never shut up about, and near the top of my list will always be the Mercedes S-Class, namely this immaculate 2006 S65 AMG, with a crazy big engine with crazy big power, with a crazy low price. It's either this, or a fully loaded Honda Civic. Your choice. This 2006 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is so underrated in the used car market that I've written about it twice before. This '06 is the last year of the W220, which means that the German automaker got most, if not all of the kinks out of this technological leviathan. Its 604-horsepower twin turbocharged V12 engine is a freak of nature, delivering an earth-crumbling 738 ft-lbs of torque, bone stock, with lots of room for modifications, if you're a masochist and want to watch the world burn. With the stock limiter taken off, it will get to 200 miles per hour (350km/h). And heat your butt at the same time. The car looks to be in great condition, with around 80,000 miles on the odometer and a clean vehicle history report. All options are ticked, other than the four-seater option, and rear heated/ventilated seats. But who cares about the people in the rear? Their heads will be glued to the headrests whenever the fast pedal gets welded to the floor on an off-ramp. I did notice that the shift knob was missing, but that's an easy fix. I had an S600, which is a detuned version of this car. It's worth it in so many ways that I'd give my hands a serious case of carpal tunnel if I typed everything out in detail. Yes, it can be expensive to fix, especially if something goes wrong with the ABC hydropneumatic system, and the engine's coil packs are expensive at $1500 apiece (there are two), but barring those, and considering that this was originally a car that commanded a $200,000 MSRP, it makes sense that you'd have to pay a bit more to be able to blow the doors off of any Ferrari or Lamborghini made in the '90s. It's worth checking out at the very least.
Many thanks to Tavarish, who this article in Jalopnik. Here. Old warriors never die, they just get more powerful day-by-day. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen or Geländewagen or cross-country vehicle was originally designed for pure military purposes from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran (at the time he was a significant Mercedes shareholder) but has been produced commercially since 1979. Anyway, year by year sales went up & the G-Wagen became a true iconic model for the brand. The car morphed into a high-end luxury SUV, with a starting price of $116,325. That will buy you an entry level G550, while the high performance G63 ///AMG goes for$138,057 before you add any options. But despite their lofty prices, they’ve both sold so well that Mercedes is turning things up another notch with the introduction of the $218,825 G65 AMG. The newest G65 AMG generation was unveiled these days at the New York Auto-Show. It has a 6.0-liter twin-blowers (turbos) V12 that barely fits in the engine bay and churns out some mighty 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of pure torque, making it the most powerful SUV in the known universe. Nevertheless, it rides on solid front and rear axles, and has three locking differentials for serious off-roading, if you do not mind scratching the available matte-finish paint. UPDATE: The image posted above is nothing more than a simple rendering, which has been put together by Theophilus Chin , but considering the fact that the new GLE (ML) has been unveiled recently, it’s not that hard to imagine a pickup truck with the premium SUV in mind. Rumor has it that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz pickup truck will be based on the Nissan Navara and to be called GLT-Class. The report has been published a few weeks back and it is telling us that the premium model will be riding on the same platform as the Nissan Navara, but probably in the future generations of the model. This will be aimed towards markets such as Latin America, North & South Africa, Australia and even Europe and it is believed to be introduced by 2019-2020. Additional details on it are limited for the moment but will probably be announced in a few years through a concept version which will be offering a certain preview of it. According to Mr. Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans and confirmed with an online Sketch, Mercedes-Benz is now seriously considering to enter the global market for midsize haulers. Obviously Daimler plans to build the truck in cooperation with Nissan Motor Co. using the basic framework of Nissan’s Navara and even using Nissan factories to produce the vehicle. The talks, which are at an advanced stage, involve using the basic architecture of Nissan’s Navara pickup truck for the new vehicle and producing it in Nissan factories. Although Nissan did not comment the situation -- “The details are still being worked out” Mercedes-Benz would use the Navara framework, but would provide “everything with which the customer comes in contact”. That would include the powertrain, the interior, the design and other elements that could be considered as optional. The company however (Mercedes-Benz) declined to disclose any details of production plans, a specific launch date or pricing, but said it is making preparations to produce the vehicle “in large numbers” in various regions of the world within the next five years. Stay tuned. On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman travels out to the wilds of the Anza Borrego desert with the goal of figuring out which small, sporty, pricey, German SUV is best: the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG or the Porsche Macan Turbo. Packing 400-horsepower, will the Porsche’s 45-horsepower advantage beat out the smaller, lighter, and still plenty powerful, GLA45? Or will the jacked-up red hatchback from Affalterbach put a beat-down on a genuine Porsche Turbo? There’s only one way to find out! As we know all too well however, aftermarket tuners are never satisfied with the standard performance provided by cars like this and never fail to release potently impressive upgrade packages. The following matte grey Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe, owned by the founder of ADV.1 Wheels, has consequently been installed with a Renntech ECU upgrade. Incredibly, the rather simple ECU modifications have managed to bump power all the way up to 701 mighty bhp ! THE SPORTINESS OF A COUPÉ WITH THE STRENGTHS OF AN SUV. The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) . The GLE-Class name will be used in 2015 for the forthcoming facelifted Mercedes-Benz M-Class (W166). As part of Mercedes-Benz's new naming strategy, the GLE-Class will define the SUV's positioning in the middle of its segment and between the future GLC and GLS-Classes (the former GLK and GL, respectively), the same way the E-Class is positioned in relation to the C and S-Classes. Sam Mawani from Alberta, Canada – ordered his car in October 1981’ and took delivery of it in June 1982'. Approximately 33 years later, the car is still like brand-new. Colored In Beige Champagne, nearly 33 year later, this 300SD W126 has only clocked around 2,500km (or about 1,553 miles), and is now ready to change hands as the car is offered now for sale in eBay in California area (from another owner) with a 'Buy It Now' price of $53,500. (Starting price was $45k) The current seller of the car states that Mawani's intention was "not to actually drive the car but to lovingly maintain it while he admired it in his garage", and this is evidenced through a sample of hand written notes (Each liter of fuel consumed by the car is noted and most receipts are on file.) with precise maintenance details and even schematics (!) This car is probably the most original, lowest mileage W126 in existence. The car has been preserved to an extraordinary standard. The original sales receipt notes a selling price of $45,755 Canadian for this SD and included optional leather, heated seats and orthopedic seats (in 1981’ these orthopedic seats weren't even relevant to common people, good job Mercedes.) All the peripheral items appear unused and preserved to perfection: Spare wheel/tire, jack, tire changing placard, safety kit, quick reference red and blue placards etc. Opening the hood reveals an engine bay area appearing virtually as new with all the factory waxol coating intact, all decals intact and perfect, hood pad in perfect condition and all hardware finishes in as-new condition. The torque value paint swatches remain brilliant throughout both the engine bay and the undercarriage. This is fantastic. This breathtaking SD is a certain MBCA National Show winner. Here's the link to start putting your bids on eBay.
The Mercedes-AMG GT is a sports car you need to see in real life to get a good impression of the looks of this car but great photos of a car can sure help you. Such photos were made in Bordeaux - FR and this gives you a chance to take a better look at AMG's latest Beast. Mercedes-AMG recently started to deliver the first copies to their dealerships. Potential customers can already experience whether the GT is a good alternative of the Porsche 991 or the Maserati GranTurismo. Later this autumn the official introduction will follow and customers can pick up their own GTs. Only three months after the S-Class sedan, MANSORY now presents its refinement program for the Mercedes sports Coupé at the Geneva Motor Show.
Masculine body extensions, powerful 986 HP and artfully hand-crafted interior modifications characterise the S 63 AMG Coupé refinement program baptised by MANSORY with the name DIAMOND EDITION. GODDAMN IT WHAT IS THIS ???!! Extensive modifications transform the series design into a mean and stealth and muscular athletic package. The redesigned front with its LED day driving lights and the powerful cooling air inlets ensures an awe-inspiring appearance. The new lightweight hood with integrated NACA nozzles complete the MANSORY air control system optimised for the supply of fresh air to the front motor. The new carbon fender at the front and the seamlessly integrated spacers on rear fenders widen the sides by 50 millimeters and give the S-Coupe its distinctive and dynamic appearance. The wheels are 22 inch multispoke alloys, for which Mansory recommends Vredestein tyres. Inside Mansory offer aluminium pedals and a redesigned steering wheel. Foot mats are also included as are illuminated door sill trims and retrimmed seats. On request Mansory will individualise the complete interior with leather, carbon, wood or other exclusive materials. MANSORY has completely revised the S 63 AMG Coupe and installed genuine high-performance components with the M1000 performance Kit: With this Power-Upgrade, connecting rods, big end bearings, crankshaft, bearing bushings, turbocharger, suction and compressor system, as well as many other parts replace the serial parts. Together with the newly conceived pipe fan manifolds this results in superb performance values. Instead of 576 hp the heavily modified S Class Coupe now achieves an impressive 985 horsepower ! to tickle the 0-100km/h in just 3.2sec Recently, Mercedes-AMG has just unveiled the beautiful S 63 Coupé (585hp). Well, BRABUS just made it even better with it's brand new 850 6.0 Biturbo ! According to the German tuning company this is the most powerful coupe in the world. Fuck your Corvette.
Brabus tuned AMG’s V8 engine just like they with their other 850 models. The engine capacity is increased and they installed more powerful components. They also added two enormous turbos which boost the power to 850 hp and 1.150 Nm of torque. According to Brabus the car has a 'limited' top speed of 350 km/h. The sprint to 100 kph takes the 850 Coupé only 3.5 seconds. Brabus gave the exterior a subtle bodykit to make the S-Class Coupé look even more exclusive. The carbon fiber spoilers aren’t only decoration but they ‘re also functional. The front spoiler decreases the lift on the front axle and the rear spoiler increases the downforce on the rear axle. Now talking about the interior, it is all about treating the passengers. It has beeen completely refurbished with softer and higher quality leather. Brabus choose a more contrasting copper colour for the components. A total of 2019 components are painted in the colour Shadow Gold. Normally these components are painted in silver. Those who want to can also order these components in a golden colour. Eventually the wood is replaced by carbon fiber components. Subtle 850 logos refer to the power of the impressive Brabus 850 Coupé. BUT, in any way this car is absolutely perfect! BRABUS did it again. Enough horsepower this year at Brabus’ stand. The name Rocket is again used for another project based on the Mercedes-AMG S 65. With up to 900 hp and 1.200 Nm of torque you will have plenty of power to destroy other supercars in a sprint.
The top speed of 350 km/h makes the Rocket 900 the fastest business limousine in the world. Brabus equipped the S-Class with a beautiful bodykit with subtle carbon fiber spoilers which create more downforce. Under the hood we see a mighty 6.3 liter V12. At 5.500 rpm the 900 hp is transferred to the rear wheels With enough grip the 900 Rocket can sprint to 200 kph in 9.1 seconds. In the back we find a complete Brabus iBusiness package to be always online and stay up to date with your appointments. Prices not yet announced but we suspects Middle-Eastern Petrol-heads to run for it. |
